Mali, located in Western Africa, is officially known as the Republic of Mali and it is a landlocked country. It is the 7th largest nation in Africa. The country's economy is mainly dependant on agriculture. Most of the country's population is involved in farming, herding or fishing. Important cash crops are cotton and peanuts and main food crops include sorghum, millet, rice, corn and vegetables. Mineral resources of the country include gold, phosphate, kaolin, salt, limestone and uranium along with bauxite, iron ore, manganese, tin and copper. Mali has limited industries including food processing, construction, phosphate and gold mining. |
